    Salty Sailing HQ is located in Shepards Marina, Cowes. We also offer courses starter in Southampton and charter days starting from various Solent locations.
  • How do you get to the Isle of Wight?
    The Isle of Wight couldn’t be easier to get to! There are over 200 car ferry crossings a day from Portsmouth, Southampton and Lymington, which is one of the most popular ways to travel to the Island – especially if you’re coming over for a longer break. 'If you’re travelling by foot, you can catch the car ferry or use the faster crossings - the Red Jet from Southampton or the hovercraft and catamaran from Portsmouth. There are plenty of train and coach services to all the major mainland ferry ports, too, making your journey to the Island a smooth one.
  • Can I park in Southampton and come to the Island by foot?
    Absoultly, the cheapest options is to park in West Quay shopping centre for £7 per 24 hours.
  • How long is the journey to the isle of wight?
    Red Jet from Southampton to West Cowes: 28 minutes (Recommended route by foot) Ferry from Portsmouth to Fishbourne: 45 minutes Ferry from Lymington to Yarmouth: 40 minutes Ferry from Southampton to East Cowes: 1 hour Catamaran from Portsmouth to Ryde Pierhead: 22 minutes Hovercraft from Portsmouth to Ryde: 10 minutes
  • How long does it take to travel to the Isle of Wight from London?
    You can get a train from London Waterloo and a connecting ferry and be on the Island in just two hours!
  • Do I need any boating experience before coming to Salty?
    No, we welcome everyone to come and enjoy being on the water. Our charters are all led by a friendly and professional skipper and we offer courses aimed at complete beginners.
  • Do I need sailing experience?
    Not at all! Our trips are suitable for beginners and experienced sailors alike. Our skipper will guide you through the basics if you’d like to get involved, or you can simply sit back and enjoy the ride.
  • What should I wear on a days sailing?
    Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing A waterproof jacket (we provide extras if needed) Non-marking shoes with good grip (trainers or deck shoes – no flip-flops) Sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen for sunny days
